How to Measure Your Shoe Size at Home
For the most accurate size, measure your feet at the end of the day when they are at their largest. Here’s how:
- Step on paper. While wearing socks, place a piece of paper on a hard floor and step on it.
- Trace your foot. Keep your pencil or pen upright and trace the complete outline of your foot.
- Measure the length. Use a ruler to measure the distance from the back of your heel to the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure both feet. Use the measurement from your larger foot to find your size on the chart above.

Tips for Finding the Perfect Fit
- If you're between sizes, go up. It's better for a shoe to be slightly too big than too small. A tight shoe can cause blisters, bunions, and other foot problems.
- Consider the shoe type. A size 10 in a running sneaker might fit differently than a size 10 leather dress shoe because of the materials and shape.
- Don't forget about width. Standard shoe sizes are for medium-width feet (D). If you have wide or narrow feet, you may need to look for shoes specifically in those widths (e.g., 2E for wide, B for narrow).
- Check brand-specific charts. While our chart is a great guide, some brands have unique sizing. If you're buying from a new brand, it's always a good idea to check their website.
